The Ten Commandments

I.

I, the Lord, am your God. You shall not have other gods besides Me.

God created us and put us on this earth. He gave us everything we have. He is our loving Father whom we must love and serve. He loves us so much that He gave us His only Son. In return, we must follow His Son and obey Him to go to Heaven. We must believe in God, pray for Him, thank Him, love and serve Him everyday of our life.

II.

You shall not take the name of God in vain.

III.

Remember to keep the Sabbath day Holy.

The third commandment tells us to go to mass on Sunday (or Saturday evening). During this time, we must honor God and worship Him. Sunday is a day of prayer and rest. Every Sunday, we must do things that bring us closer to God such as saying prayers and reading the bible. Jesus loves children who go to church, pray and read the bible.

IV.Honor your father and your mother.

The fourth commandment tells us to love, respect and obey our parents. We must always help our parents and do what they tell us to do. If we disobey them, we disobey God because we are not keeping His commandment. We should always try hard to make our parents happy. If we make our parents happy, we also make God happy. Our parents do so much for us, so we must love them and thank them foreverything they do. God will bless those who honor and love their parents for His sake. Jesus loves children who love and obey their parents.

V.You shall not kill.

The fifth commandment teaches us the value of life. Our life is a gift from God and we should take care of this gift by taking care of our health and our soul. We should also take care of the life of others. We must not harm anyone, or say things that might cause injury to others. It is also a sin to influence others and make them do something wrong by giving them a bad example. Jesus loveschildren who are good and do not harm others.

VI.You shall not commit adultery.

We must always be pure in everything we say or do. We must never use bad words. We must never look at bad pictures. We must never touch ourselves or anyone else in an impure way. We must always pray for God to help us stay pure and keep bad things away from us. If we do something wrong, we must ask for God’s forgiveness. By being pure, we can be friends of Jesus because Jesus loves peoplewho are pure.

VII.You shall not steal.

The seventh commandment tells us that we must be honest and fair. We must not steal or take something that does not belong to us. We must be honest all the time (at home, in school , etc.) and with everybody. We must not cheat, even while playing. Jesus loves honest people.

VIII.You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor.

The eighth commandment tells us not to say bad things about our neighbors and other people. We must not talk about the faults of others, because everybody has faults. Jesus said "Do not judge, and you will not be judged". This commandment also tells us not to lie. We must always say the truth even if it means getting in trouble, for Jesus loves truthful people.

IX.You shall not covet your neighbor’s wife.

The ninth commandment tells us never to have thoughts that are impure. We must not think to do impure things to ourselves or to others. If impure thoughts came to our minds, we must stop thinking out them immediately by making ourselves busy working or playing. We must also ask Jesus to help us not have impure thoughts.

X.You shall not covet anything that belongs to your neighbor.

The tenth commandment tells us that we should not want anything that belongs to our neighbor. We should not be envious of other people and wish we had what they have.  We should be satisfied with what we have. Jesus wants us to be kind to others, not selfish. We should try to share with others the good things we have.
